"Ship of Illusions"

Films: The Thing Below (2004)

Alias: Various

Type: Alien

Location: Ocean/Haunted home

Height/Weight: Indescribable.

Affiliation: Evil

Summary: We've seen aliens at the bottom of the ocean. Or at least, aliens willing to wait out millennia before making their move. But here, we only have ourselves to blame for what came out.

History: Uncovered by the S.S. Sea Ghost, this misanthropic alien had come to Earth since it began, and was recently released and captured during a mission for a new source of energy. Alas, it broke free, and rendered the place a ghost ship. Now, a search party is about to get the brunt of some very devious alien mind games.

Notable Kills: Anytime it rams its tentacles into anybody.

Final Fate: Although it is thought to have perished in an explosion, the alien reveals itself to have been able to escape and go into the civilized world. What this means for humanity remains yet to be seen...

Powers/Abilities: Shapeshifting and creating elaborate visions that play on a victim's greatest desires and dreads.

Weakness: Heavy artillery.

Scariness Factor: 3-We'd rate this sneaky mass of strong tentacles higher, but the sad thing is that the effects are absolutely laughable. At no point does this thing ever look real at all. Still, an impressive array of powers does somewhat make up for it.

Trivia: -This film was also known as "It Waits Below" and "Ghost Rig 2: The Legend of the Sea Ghost".

-According to this film’s director, Jim Wynorski, he gave the entire effects job to a bunch of people who had no business utilizing CGI. He's rather regretful of not hiring more professional people.
